About TVS - Varistors, MOVs
Transient Voltage Suppressors (TVS) in the form of Metal-Oxide Varistors (MOVs) are crucial components in the electronics industry designed to protect electronic circuits from voltage surges or transients. MOVs are semiconductor devices with a non-linear voltage-current characteristic, providing a high resistance at normal operating voltages and low resistance at higher voltages. When a transient voltage occurs, the MOV conducts and absorbs the excess energy, preventing it from reaching sensitive components. These TVS devices are commonly used in power supplies, communication equipment, and electronic appliances to enhance system reliability and protect against voltage spikes.
